چکیده
Abstract Deep-sea brine pools represent hypersaline environments famed for their extremophile microbes. With anoxia entirely excluding bioturbating megafauna, are also conducive to the pristine preservation of sedimentary sequences. Here we use bathymetric and geophysical observations locate a complex in Gulf Aqaba consisting one 10,000 m 2 pool three minor less than 10 . We further conduct sediment coring direct sampling confirm environmental characteristics these pools. find that main preserves stratigraphy which spans at least 1200 years contains combination turbidites, likely resulting from flashfloods local seismicity, tsunamigenic terrestrial sediment. The NEOM Brine Pools, as name them, extend known geographical range Red Sea pools, unique preservational environment signals regional climatic tectonic events.

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...
Listeria spp. in the coastal environment of the Aqaba Gulf, Suez Gulf and the Red Sea.
Listeria monocytogenes is an important pathogen which causes an infection called listeriosis. Because of the high mortality rate (~30%) associated with listeriosis, and the widespread nature of the organism, it is a major concern for food and water microbiologists since it has been isolated from various types of foods, including seafood, as well as from the aqueous environment. To investigate t...
متن کاملReproductive strategies of the coral Turbinaria reniformis in the northern Gulf of Aqaba (Red Sea)
Here we describe for the first time the reproductive biology of the scleractinian coral Turbinaria reniformis studied during three years at the coral reefs of Eilat and Aqaba. We also investigated the possibility of sex change in individually tagged colonies followed over a period of 12 years. T. reniformis was found to be a stable gonochorist (no detected sex change) that reproduces by broadca...
متن کاملSeasonality of N2 fixation and nifH gene diversity in the Gulf of Aqaba (Red Sea)
Nitrogen (N2) fixation rates were determined on bulk water collected in the Gulf of Aqaba, Red Sea, during fall (stratified, oligotrophic) and spring (deep mixing, mesotrophic) seasons. N2 fixation rates were low yet consistently measurable in both seasons, and maximum rates of 1.0 6 0.1 nmol N L21 d21 and 1.9 6 0.2 nmol N L21 d21 occurred in the fall and spring, respectively. Amendment with in...
متن کاملPhytoplankton dynamics in the Gulf of Aqaba (Eilat, Red Sea): a simulation study of mariculture effects.
The northern Gulf of Aqaba is an oligotrophic water body hosting valuable coral reefs. In the Gulf, phytoplankton dynamics are driven by an annual cycle of stratification and mixing. Superimposed on that fairly regular pattern was the establishment of a shallow-water fish-farm initiative that increased gradually until its activity was terminated in June 2008. Nutrient, water temperature, irradi...
